課程概述

本課程旨在介紹全球情境中,心理健康和自殺預防的重要概念和架 構。將為學生提供了解心理健康,精神疾病,自殺行為和自殺預防等 關鍵議題的機會,重點關注於低和高資源環境的主要差異及其對預防 和介入的影響。另外將把重點放在公共衛生,以群體為基礎人口,生 命歷程和社會生態觀點上,以解決心理疾患和自殺行為造成的重大全 球健康負擔。 本課程的內容將分為三個部分。首先,學生於課前將從精選過的閱讀 材料學習,如同儕審閱期刊文章、書本章節、或其他多樣關於全球心 理健康、福祉、自殺預防議題的文獻。其次,該課程將透過講座來介 紹有關群體心理健康、心理疾患和自殺行為的歷史觀點、現況、決定 因素及現有的促進/預防/介入策略。第三,學生將有機會與精神心理照 護的醫院與社區內的提供者互動,包括參訪綜合醫院精神科,物質濫 用預防中心,身心科診所,社區家庭照顧者支持團體,景美人權園區, 及生命線組織等。 

課程目標
Students who completed this course are expected to be able to -
1. (D17-5) Discuss the science of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention in population health,
including health promotion, screening, etc.
2. (D17-9) Explain behavioural and psychological factors that affect a population’s health
3. (GH-4) Propose sustainable and evidence-based multi-sectoral interventions, considering the social determinants of health specific to the local area
4. (GH-6) Display critical self-reflection, cultural humility, and ongoing learning in global health
5. correctly describe the current global situation and major determinants of mental disorders and suicidal behaviors.
6. apply the population-based, life course, and social ecological perspectives to appraise contemporary issues of mental health and suicide prevention at the individual and community levels.
7. understand the historical foundations of contemporary local and global psycho-social-political cultures, with a focus on the perspectives, presentations, and need for mental health.
8. appraise and reflect personal attitudes, experiences, and beliefs towards mental health, mental illness, and mental health services.
9. describe the potentials and principles of applying knowledge and skills in the area of mental health in a culturally, socially, and politically sensitive way to promote mental health in global health settings, including but not restricted to the Taiwanese communities.

Participation in lectures, group discussions, and virtual visits. 1. Being absent without a good reason will lead to a loss of one point out of your participation grade. 2. Students are expected to actively participate in the lectures, group discussions, and virtual visits, asking or answering questions during virtual classes.

Reaction paper, 
20% 
A reaction paper, 2-4 pages, 350-500 words, of reflections based on the experiences with the course, including lectures, workshop, and virtual visits, following a structural format. Deadline to submit: 11:59pm Monday 9th January 2023 
3. 
Applied paper 
40% 
Students will work in groups of 3-4 persons to develop an ‘consultation product’ (4-6 A4 pages), which will include a representative literature review (minimum five articles) and recommendations to inform the practices of the institutes / organizations which they have visited. Deadline to submit: 11:59pm Friday 20th January 2023
